September 2026 Meeting: Sam Staley, “The Business Side of Writing”
Whether you are just starting your first writing project or have published multiple books, it’s critical for all writers to devote some time to thinking about the business side of writing. In the September monthly presentation, Sam Staley will provide valuable information on a host of topics, including whether or not to incorporate, the need for multiple revenue streams (i.e., don’t quit your day job), creating a marketing budget, and the importance of tax compliance.

Sam “SR” Staley published his first book in 1992, and, since then, has published nine nonfiction books and six novels. A member of the Tallahassee Writers Association since he moved to Tallahassee in 2011, Sam was coordinator of TWA’s mobile book store from 2012 until 2024 along with Pat Stanford and Bruce Ballister. He is a former board member of the Florida Authors and Publishers Association (FAPA) and served on the faculty of the Florida Writers Conference sponsored by the Florida Writers Association. When not writing fiction, Sam is director of the DeVoe L. Moore Institute at Florida State University and can be found sailing on Apalachee Bay in his 25 foot yawl, Isabella.
