“Writing a Poetic and Cinematic Novel”
Saturday, Oct. 2, Program Room B of the LeRoy Collins Leon County Public Library on Park Avenue. 1-4 p.m.
This novel-writing workshop will be led by Mary Jane Ryals, Big Bend Poet Laureate, whose first novel, Cookie and Me, will be released Sept. 5.  (Kitsune, ISBN-13: 978-0-9819495-6-7; $15).  The workshop is free and open to the public. Ryals will have copies of her novel for sale and signing.

Location: near Tallahassee Memorial Hospital at Susan Stelzmann's home studio

Big Bend Poet Laureate Mary Jane Ryals and Ceramicist Susan Stelzmann will lead us in the hands-on creation of tiles for the garden. Participants will write a poem and create a garden tile to take home. Registration fee of $45 includes clay, tools, glaze, glass, firing, and instructions. Past Workshops

TWA offers a series of free summer workshops open to the public, designed to develop writers’ skills. In 2010 we offered "Trends in Publishing: What You Need To Know" with Anne Petty, Lee Raymond and Barabra Joe Williams. We also sponsored “Creating the Right Detective: A Hands-on Workshop in Mystery Writing” with Glynn Marsh Alam. In 2009, we offered Anne Petty on "The Art of the Short Story" and "The Business of Writing" and Donna Meredith on "The Heroine's Journey."  In 2008, we offered Glynn Marsh Alam on creating strong characters, Anne Holt on publishing and promoting, and Karen Schneider on creative nonfiction.
