Jump Start is Back--
Our old program to get the creative juices flowing is back in action.
Here's the drill: Each TWA meeting, join fellow "jumpers" 45 minutes before the
start of the regular meeting to share your creation (short-short story, poem,
whatever) involving as many of four disparate elements as possible. Extra kudos
if you cleverly work ALL FOUR into your creation.
This months subjects: (1) a fan (2) sledge hammer (3) butterfly (4) single
engine airplane.
Jump Start: 5:45 PM
Regular Program 6:00 PM
Don't forget, in May we meet in the Senior Center Ballroom (one-time only)
Future Programs
Thursday, August 21,
2008-----August’s
program will focus on writing creative nonfiction.
Creative nonfiction is a work
of factual literary prose. Unlike other types of nonfiction, such as
technical writing or journalism, the emphasis is on factually true yet
elegant literary expression. Our presenter, TWA member Karen G.
Schneider, has placed several pieces in this genre in nationally known
journals, magazines, and anthologies this past year. Karen
is a writer and
librarian who has published over 100 articles and two books, primarily
about internet technologies for library trade publications. In 1998, she
published A Practical Guide to
Internet Filters, which enabled her to provided expert
testimony for Mainstream Loudoun vs.
Board of Trustees, a pivotal First Amendment case about free
speech on the internet. Karen graduated is a graduate from Barnard
College , University of Illinois , and the
University of San Francisco . She also is an Air Force Veteran
serving from 1983-1991. Karen currently resides in Tallahassee , Florida
.
